Jesus-centered and gospel-focused, the Ekklesia Podcast asks honest questions about the modern institutional church and what 2,000 years of religious/church tradition has given us. Are the churches we build a true expression of the one Jesus is building? My name is Mike Adams and I am a former pastor in institutional church settings and host and producer of The Ekklesia Podcast.

If it leaves a trail of abused victims, it isn't Jesus. This episode of The Ekklesia Podcast is a cross-posting of an episode Susan and I did on our Grace Cafe Podcast concerning the #ChurchToo movement. I felt the content was a good fit for The Ekklesia Podcast as well.

In this episode, we had an informal conversation about the different types of abuse in the modern church and the impact the #ChurchToo movement is having on exposing abuse. Victims of abuse are finding their voice and speaking up about abuse that has been going on for years, which the church has been working hard to spin, cover up, and keep quiet. It is our opinion that the top-down authority structures found in most institutional church settings is a huge part of the problem that feeds attempted cover-ups of abuse within its walls while silencing its victims through shame, threats, and intimidation.
